Marine patrol officers free dolphin tangled in net off North Bay Village
Residents spotted the dolphin struggling in Biscayne Bay and called 911; officers cut the netting from its tail, and village officials said it appeared unhurt.
Marine patrol officers freed a dolphin that had become tangled in a net in Biscayne Bay off North Bay Village on Wednesday afternoon, WSVN 7News reported. The report has not been independently confirmed by Red Sidewalks.
A resident noticed from an apartment window that the dolphin was not swimming normally, according to the station. A drone flown closer showed netting caught around its tail, and the residents called 911.
North Bay Village police and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office marine patrol units arrived within minutes, WSVN reported, with the drone helping guide them to the animal. Several marine patrol officers went into the water and removed the netting.
Village officials said the dolphin appeared to be uninjured, and it swam back out to deeper water, according to the station.
