Miami Beach Commissioner Alex J. Fernandez will lead an on-site walkthrough of the West Avenue Phase II Neighborhood Improvement Project on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m., the city announced.

The meeting point is the corner of Lincoln Road and Alton Road, next to the Citizen M hotel. According to the city’s event listing, residents can see the progress on the construction site, hear about upcoming plans and get the latest updates. The city posted the invitation on X on Monday.

What the project is

Phase II of the West Avenue improvements is a flood-resilience project that includes new stormwater drainage, water lines and sewer upgrades, NBC 6 reported in January. The station reported that the city says the project has been in development for about a decade and that its scope and budget have grown to more than $100 million.

Earlier concerns

The January NBC 6 report said work on the Lincoln Road block between Bay Road and West Avenue began in June 2025. At the time, the block was closed to car traffic, though the city said it remained open to local and business traffic, and a pedestrian path remained on the south side. Business owners told the station that access had been difficult and that walk-in customers had dropped off. A city project spokesperson acknowledged the disruption and said crews were trying to balance safety, progress and access.

NBC 6 reported that the city expected that stretch to reopen to vehicles and pedestrians by the end of last summer. The current status of the work was not part of the city’s announcement.
