A felony charge against rapper Rick Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, was dropped Friday in a Miami courtroom, CBS News Miami reported. He still faces a misdemeanor battery charge in a domestic violence case investigated by Miami Beach Police, according to CBS News Miami and NBC 6.

Ross surrendered to detectives at Miami Beach Police headquarters on Oct. 1 and was charged with felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery, CBS News Miami reported. The case stems from an alleged incident in late August at his home on Star Island, which was reported to police on Sept. 29, according to CBS News Miami. The woman involved has not been publicly identified.

Ross has pleaded not guilty, NBC 6 reported. His attorney, Brad Horenstein, told the station, “Mr. Ross is innocent,” and said there are serious doubts about the case. Neither outlet said who moved to drop the felony count, and no statement from prosecutors was reported.

A Miami Beach Police spokesman told NBC 6 the department takes domestic violence allegations very seriously. The next court date was not reported.
