A Miami Beach police officer warned state Rep. Fabián Basabe that he would get a ticket for being too loud on a microphone at the City Hall early voting site, according to a video posted on X on Oct. 30.

The video and the post that shared it are the only sources for this story. Red Sidewalks reviewed the video but has not independently confirmed the account in the post, and did not find a police report, a police statement or a public response from Basabe.

In the video, Basabe holds a microphone while a uniformed officer tells him he is being too loud and that he will get a ticket. The officer also says Basabe wants to be heard over another person. Basabe ends the video by saying “free speech in Miami Beach.”

Video posted on X by political activist Thomas Kennedy.

Kennedy wrote that police stepped in twice and that people were voting at the time. Red Sidewalks could not confirm either claim, or whether a ticket was issued.

Basabe, a Republican, represents Florida House District 106. Lucia Báez-Geller, a former Miami-Dade School Board member, is challenging him in the Nov. 3 election, CBS Miami reported.

Miami Beach City Hall, at 1700 Convention Center Drive, is one of the county’s early voting sites. Early voting runs through Sunday, Nov. 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to Miami-Dade County.
