The Bass will introduce its new artistic director and chief curator, Philippe Vergne, to the public at a free talk on Thursday, Nov. 19, at the museum, 2100 Collins Ave., according to the museum.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the 45-minute conversation starts at 6:30 p.m., according to the event page. Admission is free with an RSVP on the museum’s website, and seating is first come, first served. Associate Curator Jasa McKenzie will moderate and preview the coming season, the museum said.

The museum announced in June that it had created the position for Vergne and that he would start Oct. 1. He oversees exhibitions and public programs and works alongside Silvia Karman Cubiñá, according to the announcement.

Vergne came from the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto, Portugal, which he led from 2019. He previously directed the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles and the Dia Art Foundation in New York, and was deputy director and chief curator of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the museum said. “I am honored to join The Bass’ team,” he said in the June announcement.
