North Bay Village swears in mayor and two commissioners; Chervony named vice mayor
Mayor Rachel Streitfeld, Goran Cuk and returning Harbor Island Commissioner Jorge Gonzalez took office; Andy Daro was honored as he left the dais.
North Bay Village Mayor Rachel A. Streitfeld, At-Large Commissioner Goran Cuk and Harbor Island Commissioner Jorge Gonzalez took the oath of office at the village’s November commission meeting, the village said Thursday. All three were elected unopposed. The mayor serves a two-year term and the commissioners four-year terms.
Gonzalez returns to the dais after an earlier stint as a commissioner from 2012 to 2016, according to the village. Commissioner Richard Chervony was named vice mayor through the end of his term in 2028.
The meeting also honored former Harbor Island Commissioner Andy Daro for four years on the commission. The village credited him with work on the new community center, park improvements, grants for the sidewalk and crosswalk project, due to be finished in early 2027, and the push to complete the Island Walk along the waterfront. In his last act on the dais, Daro presented the village’s Unsung Hero Award to a resident who cares for community cats, the village said.
The account comes from the village’s own posts, which Red Sidewalks has not independently verified. Red Sidewalks previewed the meeting’s agenda, which also included a second vote on new stormwater bond borrowing; the village hasn’t yet posted minutes showing how that vote went.
