Treasure Island Elementary in North Bay Village added to district's school review list
The school is one of 28 'advised' schools the district will watch as it weighs closures and consolidations. It wasn't on the August list.
Treasure Island Elementary, North Bay Village’s public elementary school, is on a new Miami-Dade County Public Schools list of schools under watch as the district considers closing or consolidating campuses, according to the district’s Attendance Boundary Committee list published Thursday by WLRN.
The school, at 7540 E. Treasure Drive, is one of 28 “advised” schools on the 2026-27 initial list, seven of them in the district’s North Region. WLRN describes advised schools as ones under close watch and further review. That is a step short of the six “targeted” schools, five of which could be consolidated into neighboring schools, starting with Golden Glades and Myrtle Grove elementaries in the north. No change is proposed for Treasure Island on the list.
The North Bay Village school wasn’t among the schools the district named in August, before Superintendent Rafael Villalobos paused that process on his first day in September, according to WLRN. Villalobos said the new review is a more in-depth process, and that the School Board vote, once expected in December, is now planned for March.
The district’s dashboard for the school counted 411 students in October 2024, from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, and the school earned a B in 2024-25, up from a C the year before.
No other public school in Miami Beach or the barrier-island towns appears on the list. The list doesn’t say what being advised would mean for Treasure Island’s students. Parents can reach the school at 305-865-3141.
