Surfside reports gas leak on Abbott Avenue, water shutoff and 88th Street lane closure today
A gas leak at 9500 Abbott Avenue, a four-hour water interruption near 88th Street and an evening lane closure all hit Surfside on Thursday.
The Town of Surfside is warning drivers to avoid a reported gas leak at 9500 Abbott Avenue and issued two other notices for Thursday, Nov. 5: a scheduled water shutoff and an evening lane closure. All details come from the town’s alert email, which Red Sidewalks has not independently verified.
Gas leak. The town said emergency personnel are on site and TECO Gas is on its way to repair the leak. Motorists should avoid the area, use alternate routes and follow instructions from emergency personnel. The town’s alert gave no word on evacuations or when the repair would be done.
Water interruption. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., water service will be interrupted so crews can tie in a water main at 8800 Collins Ave. The town said properties along Harding and Collins avenues between 88th and 89th streets are affected, as marked on its map, shown above. The work is on private property and no traffic impacts are expected. Questions go to the town’s Public Works Department at 305-342-0952.
Lane closure tonight. Beginning at 6 p.m., Miami-Dade Water and Sewer crews will replace a water main valve, closing the westbound lane of 88th Street between Byron and Abbott avenues for about six hours. The town said water service will not be affected, and drivers should use alternate routes.
