Miami Beach police step up 'block the box' enforcement at congested intersections
Officers posted at busy intersections are enforcing the rule against pulling into an intersection without room to clear it, the department said.
Miami Beach police officers working congested intersections are enforcing “block the box” violations to keep cross traffic moving, the department said on Instagram on Tuesday.
The rule is simple: a green light doesn’t mean a driver can enter the intersection if there’s no room on the other side. Cars stuck in the middle when the light changes block the cross street and the crosswalks. The department asked drivers to leave the intersection clear, keep crosswalks open and follow officers’ directions.
The post didn’t say which intersections officers are covering, how long the push will last or how many tickets have been written.
This brief is based on the department’s post, which Red Sidewalks has not independently verified.
